Strive for What Is Good
It is not always easy to get what is right, either for self or for others. Sometimes we're tempted to think we must do what is not good to get what is good — but God has given the church another way to fight for what is good: spiritual warfare. Here the battleground moves from the physical to the spiritual, and the direction of the struggle is given to God while we follow.
Prayer is not the only aspect of spiritual warfare, but it is the strongest. It recognizes that the issues involved are beyond ordinary human means — but God is able to bring about complete victory, freedom, or whatever is needed. When you cannot accomplish what is good on your own, take it to God in prayer.
Paul and Silas were in a maximum-security prison, their feet bound so they could not escape. They recognized they were in a battle beyond the physical — so they sang songs to God and prayed. "About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God... suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and everyone's chains came loose." God fought for Paul and Silas, and they were freed.
Beloved in the Lord, it is hard to see the situations many nations are facing simply as physical difficulties. In this kind of moment, nothing is stronger than prayer to strive for what is good. Are you or someone you know passing through a situation you cannot describe as good? Strive for the good, beginning with prayer — and God will bless you and intervene for the glory of His Name and the good of His people, in Jesus' Name, Amen.
Reflection: Where is God asking you to trust Him in prayer beyond what's visible right now?
